The Spider 124 is certainly one of the most successful and iconic long-lived sport roadsters of Italian production, designed and built by Pininfarina factory. The original design was conceived by the designer Tom Tjaarda, "father" of the design of many beautiful and prestigious cars, including the famous Ferrari 365 California and De Tomaso Pantera.
Built from 1966 to 1985 in Turin, it has had great success in the USA, where 170,000 cars out of 200,000 spider produced were exported!
Front engine, rear wheel-drive, two luxury seats, quiet and fast, the Margherita is the spider for a comfortable and relaxed drive, enjoying the rural scenery of our Italian countryside. Why not listen to a bit of music, thanks to the on board stereo system.
Our spider is the CS2 model (1978-1979), the only one fitted with a 2,000 cc engine powered with carburetors, our car was originally produced for the American market in only 16,926 units made.
Margherita has travelled a lot, spending the first part of its life in California, moving up and down the west coast, then to Europe, Germany and finally Italy, where she has taken a long period of vacation riding along the beautiful and sunny Sicilian coast. Driving Vintage discovered the car which needed minor cosmetic restoration and decided to bring her home, to her native home.
Practical advice
It’s a fascinating roadster, comfortable, characterized by its iconic lines that capture every angle of its creative features. Accessibility is good and even driving with the hood down there is low noise and moderate air turbulence.
Steering is not servo-assisted and requires a bit 'of practice for successful maneuvering, especially when the vehicle is standing. The clutch pedal is operated with minimal pressure, the gear box is simple to use and requires just a little practice to understand its functional features.
The car is equipped with front and rear disc brakes, with the additional feature of servo assisted braking system.
Luggage advice
This car has a good load capacity within the rear trunk area. Above the spare wheel and safety/emergency equipment, there is enough space for two cabin trolley bags or even a hold luggage.
